Hauntological insects


As an apiarist myself, it occurred to my this evening as I was at the hive feeding the bees their sugar syrup (to help them produce enough honey to last them though the winter and into the spring) that if one animal embodies hauntology more than any other; it’s the honey bee.

Below are some plates from a beautiful book called The Golden Throng, first published in 1943 – though my copy is a reprint from ’46.
