Strange Invaders (1983)

Director Michael Laughlin's cult classic. Aliens invade an Illinois town in the late 1950s, where they disguise themselves as humans. Neglecting to allow for the passage of time, the new residents lock the town in a perpetual 1958, as university lecturer Charles Bigelow discovers when he visits Centerville 25 years later in search of his missing wife.

Strange Invaders is the second film in a loose - and incomplete - trilogy which began with 1981's Strange Behavior. The latter is a complex tale of murder, love and mind control in an American college town, and is also worth seeking out.
