No Place Like Dome

Couldn't resist jumping on the bandwagon.

These pics are of Fylingdales and come from 'Lost Buildings' by Jonathan Glancey, which is quite hauntological in theme though the majority of buildings covered are pre yer classic hauntological period. There's a whole chapter on buildings knocked down by Stalin, which has become a running gag in our house.

  1. Nice. I bet that book has lots of good stuff.

  2. It does indeed, and from all over the place, geographically and time-wise. Includes stuff that was never built, and buildings from fiction.

  3. A very useful, if somewhat dry, illustrated history of Fylingdales can be found in 'Cold War: Building for Nuclear Confrontation 1946-1989', published by English Heritage, which offers a history of buildings created with the loss of other buildings as their primary purpose - btw really enjoyed the Bucky Fuller and Saxa Vord posts as well - my respects to the individuals concerned - this is definitely a subject that requires further collective investigation

  4. Ken, that sounds great; is it *heavily* illustrated? My finger is poised over the big red Purchase button...
