I am silenced. This is wonderful. It's brought a right, good tear to my ear. And yes, the hair...the loveliest, softest, most thought provoking quiff I've ever seen.
I think this is a good context in which to put Thackray... he really should be an elder statesman of this dumping ground. As mentioned, this is fairly atypical and probably the bleakest of all his songs, but not an isolated example of a kind of grim pastoral in his work - hear also (if you get the chance) The Poor Sod, The Prisoner. And The Jolly Captain is a good spooky one.
That's lovely. It's also given me an idea for a brand new look.

ReplyDeletethis is a bit atypical, he wasn't really a folk singer or traditional music guy, his thing was chansonniers like Georges Brassens and Jacques Brel
so i wonder if this is an actual folk song or an invented one
