In another clip from the same Arthur C. Clarke episode, Mr. Alfred Wilson Osborne, the chess correspondent for the Bristol Evening Post (and his obviously long-suffering wife) recount the strange tale of a sudden downpour of hazelnuts.
Things to note about Mr. Osborne: he only appears to have one arm, which might explain his slightly aggressive umbrella use, and he is something of a ham - see his cheeky speculative glance to the heavens on the fade. It's a shame he didn't get his own series.
