'Quatermass and the Pit' is surely a founding text of the whole hauntological posse. I only caught it for the first time last year but, crikey, Kneale's in at the start - there's not a riff which hasn't since been half-inched.
He also helmed 'Asylum'. That last shock sticks with me, I tell yer. Stethoscopes ruined forever.
RWB's 'Asylum' and 'The Vault of Horror' are a pair of classic Amicus portmanteau films. Love them both. And I agree, RWB was a great facilitator but the genius of Quatermass is Kneale.
