This is Dockstader's masterpiece, a truly terrifying and massive piece of sound art, and incredibly he hadn't seen any Quatermass at the time he put this together (1964) - he just thought the word was right for the sounds he was producing. In retrospect it would have made an amazing soundtrack to the Quatermass films. You can read more about it here.

Dockstader was awesome in the 60s. He's awesome today. The Aerial series is as good as anything released this century.
ReplyDeleteI remember when I interviewed Dockstader a few years back that he was inspired to record 'Quatermass' after seeing the title on the spine of a book in a library in Brooklyn - he said he had no idea what the title meant but was pleasantly surprised when he got to see the Hammer movie versions some years later. Sometimes a title just...works.
ReplyDeleteI came here to listen to Quatermass.
ReplyDeleteWhere is it?
Oh well.....you can all go and listen to my works anyways. If you are on LinkedIn you can get a free Mp3 just for the asking via email.
And..you can find me with a Google search.
Musically yours,
