The other day I happened to see the bit of Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome where the feral children tell their oral history of former civilisation partly based on a Viewmaster with a disc salvaged from the plane they were on (several generations ago) which seems to be some sort of promotional airline thing for kids.
Although I wouldn't really cite Mad Max as a prime example, I feel like there's something hauntological about post-historic societies trying to deduce meaning from randomly surviving cultural or consumer items.
