    I posted the link to a pal in the US and he replied that, as a nipper, he had played with "toy telephones that had tiny
    record players inside them so that you could pretend you got a phone call from, like, Mary Poppins or whoever.. The records were probably
    about that same size, if not a tiny bit larger."
