Life in a New Town
Excerpt from a brilliant short film about Stevenage. The Youth Club section is particularly good, but I also like the jacket potatoes and the singalong.

I reckon a couple of those ash-covered baked potatoes would be enough to send me Round the Mulberry Bush.
ReplyDeleteReally enjoyed that. Thank you sir.
Wonderful, evocative stuff!
ReplyDeleteGreat film. I think people who laugh at new towns forget the problems of post-war overcrowding in London. The woman who said it was her first home had probably spent years living with in-laws.
ReplyDeleteQuite right, Tom, and probably without proper plumbing. New Towns were an example of government doing their best to alleviate a known problem. Yes, it was done in a patrician type way, yes, in the long term it threw up other issues but, for the majority of people moving there, it was a good thing.
ReplyDeleteAmazing, I love the camera work and the transitioning through the different scenes.
