Alfred Burke Public Eye

On 16th Feb 2011 the actor Alfred Burke passed away. Alfred was probably best known for his portrayal of the Private Detective Frank Marker in the series Public Eye, which ran from 1965 to 1975.

I remember seeing the later episodes of Public Eye in the mid 70s with my parents. What stuck in my mind most about this often very dark series was the intro and the melancholy piece of music which accompanied it. The Public Eye theme was composed by Bob Sharples under the name of Robert Eardley.

Alfred Burke (28 February 1918 – 16 February 2011) RIP.

  1. Afternoons off school ill, with Burke walking the dingey, mundane pre-war alleys of his milieu with that oh-so-British-hangdog music echoing through it all.

  2. I take it you did not like it. Afternoons of School, cups of Tea with choc biscuit and re-runs of Public Eye. Crown Courts on at 1.30.
