Art Into Landscape, 1977

'Art Into Landscape' was a competition organised by the Arts Council, in which the public were invited to submit proposals for imaginative ways of improving run-down or poorly used areas.  The finalists were exhibited at the Serpentine Gallery and published in this book.

From the intro:

"The first 'Art Into Landscape' exhibition in 1974 clearly demonstrated that, when it comes to improving their surroundings, artists, bankers, housewives and children have as much imagination as professional planners and architects."

Examples above from the 'Roundabout at Ware' and 'Finsbury Park' sections.  Check out "Ice Sore at Ware" for the sole ironic submission, and "Send in the Clowns" for the most disturbing.
